Frequently Asked Questions

  • What’s the difference between the Marquette Method and other NFP methods?

The Marquette Method has truly modernized NFP as it involves the use of technology to identify ovulation and fertility.  Most NFP methods encourage users to observe biological markers of fertility, such as cervical mucus and basal body temperature, in order to determine fertility.  This requires you to determine fertility based on your own subjective observations.  The Marquette Method is known for instead using an electronic hormone monitor, the Clearblue Fertility Monitor, to observe levels of fertility hormones in your urine.  The use of the monitor to determine the fertility hormone measurements is a more objective measurement of true fertility that is both simple and precise!

The monitor provides users with a level of fertility (low, high, or peak) based on the hormone levels present in a single, first-morning urine sample.  The fertility hormone measurements are then coupled with a calendar algorithm to determine the fertile and infertile times each cycle so that couples may avoid or achieve pregnancy successfully.  For individuals who would like to continue observing traditional biomarkers of fertility, protocols certainly exist.  However, additional observations are not required with the Marquette Model of NFP.  One urine test, once a day is often enough!

  • Will the Marquette Method of NFP work for me?

The Marquette Method has protocols to suit all phases of life including postpartum - breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding, regular cycles, long and short cycles, and perimenopause.  FiatNFP has provided instruction to clients of all ages and fertility backgrounds.  Medical diagnosis' such as prolactinoma, PCOS, thyroid disorders, etc. can affect your fertility hormones and menstrual cycle regularity.  As long as you are having menstrual cycles, the Marquette Method is an option for you!

  • Can I use the Marquette Method when breastfeeding and postpartum?

YES!  Protocols exist for testing urinary hormones during what the Marquette Model refers to as “Cycle Zero."  Cycle Zero is the period of time from delivery of baby until your first postpartum menses returns.

While breastfeeding and in Cycle Zero, use of the Clearblue Fertility Monitor (CBFM) is strongly encouraged.  Cervical mucus observations are optional during this time due to research that has shown a poor correlation between mucus observations and true fertility.  Urinary fertility hormone measurements, however, are very accurate and often allow more usable days for intimacy than mucus-only methods & protocols may allow.

Not only are there protocols available while cycles are delayed or absent postpartum, but they show great success when used correctly both during Cycle Zero and beyond.  Research has proven that the Marquette Method protocols involving use of the CBFM while postpartum and breastfeeding are 98-99% effective at avoiding pregnancy!

  • What do I need to get started?

It all depends on which biological signs you plan to observe and record while using the Marquette Method.  For more information on start-up supplies and where to begin, visit here!

  • How much does it cost to learn and use the Marquette Method?

There are fees incurred with instruction, start-up supplies, and maintenance expenses when learning the Marquette Method - particularly if opting to use the fertility monitor.  These costs can be minimized if using cervical mucus observations or lower-cost ovulation tests.  The expense of instruction is set individually by Marquette Method of NFP instructors and can vary widely from one instructor to the next.

FiatNFP provides instruction locally to St Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons, KS parishioners for free.  If you’re within the Wichita Diocese in Kansas, instruction is offered at a discounted rate.  Local clientele should reach out to Jackie at This email address is being protected from spambots. • How do I know which Membership Option is right for me?

FiatNFP membership options can be found here.  The difference in membership packages is in the way the materials and information are delivered (personal, screen-share lecture vs on-demand recorded lectures), the number of follow-up consults included, and the length of membership access to Jackie and the online materials.  ALL MEMBERSHIPS HAVE ACCESS TO THE SAME CONTENT ONLINE, but the way you receive that initial information is different.  If you opt to have a personal lecture in the beginning, that same lecture will be available on-demand for the duration of your membership to FiatNFP.
